If you have installed VirtualBox on your computer and have found that you are getting no audio it is because the audio driver for a 64 bit Windows guest operating system included with the VirtualBox package does not work. You will have to locate and install a driver from the RealTek website. This was the case in March 2010, Sun or whoever are administering VitualBox may have fixed this problem.
This post was made in response to some of the research that I performed in trying to fix the problem for myself. It highlights the nonsense that you often find on forums. Now, May 2012, The forum in question was the VirtualBox help forum.
My take here was a comment about the forum moderator making false statements and then having a go at the OP (or possibly a respondent) about not following forum guidelines.
Windows Update DOES NOT provide a solution and it is NOT a case of following forum posting guidelines.
If you search for "virtualbox multimedia audio controller driver" - it takes you to the VirtualBox forum - Sasquatch - Forum Moderator has the arrogance to "bark" at posters for not following forum guidlines!
The solution was found on RealTek website - AC'97 drivers - worked on both Windows 7 64 bit and Vista 64 bit guests hosted from Windows 7 and Vista 64 bit hosts (both with processors that had hardware virtualization capability)
"muse sound driver windows 7 64 bit"
I am not sure what this means. I am not the author of any such drivers
